cruiser saboteur (class 1 ship)


similar to the sabotage fighter, this class 1 ship, contsructed with a high density hull alloy, has a long range pulse cannon which does 1 damage to one class 3 ship. however, due to the time taken for the pulse canon to power up it is almost redundant against all other classes.

I created the above ship.

I am sure at some point someone wanted to build an anti swank class 1 ship but it’s not in the game anywhere for kazzulus/mycilliods so I though I’d build a new one. Humans and nanites’ already have hammer-bounty hunter combo and e-rays have the evaporator.

What I wanted originally for this ship was 0AP/2LP and does 1 damage to cls 3 at a cost of 2mp...which I still think is the better option. But mp calculator put this to 3 mp. So I upped the LP to 3 and made it reduce fire power of another ship by 1.

This means at a cost of 300 mp, i.e. 100 saboteurs, 1 cls 3 is destroyed. However this also gives you high shielding like the mosquito.

Like me I think you all may say that the mp usage is still too high. If so one variant could be to have 2 pulses per ship so 2 different class 3 ships are damaged 1 point each.

Other possibilty is that it not only decreases one of your own ships AP by one but also one of the enemy's ships as well. But this may be too much tech for one ship to handle.

This would be good swank fodder. I wouldprefer to build cruisers to take out a swank and the mosquito and bulk fighter are better protection than this.

If a few of these ships were embedded in a reg fighter c1 fleet, the enemy cruiser could not be reconstructed but yours could.

It wouldn't take too many in a fleet with 3 lp to do some damage if you got lucky with the order.

In my opinion that is the best use of this ship.- Making a kill by some other heavy-hitter ship non-reconstructable.

Indifferent to it's addition. It's balanced I think. Peng 's would also smoke 'em pretty hard

Actually, re reading it's description, looks like something definitely worth trying.
Let me look again when I can give more thought but I voted yes !

A modification:

To make the ship more effective --> instead of having the reduce 'ap' function in the last line of the syntax to balance the ship. How about allowing the ship to jam 1 ship in both yours and the enemy fleet class it is fighting?

This way against a pure swank fleet it is more effective and has slightly more protection against other class 1s or 2s.

jams 1 ship in both fleets in the class it fights with and you get back the initiative
(battle engine syntax: jam,both,1,this)


rem: jamming only lasts for 1 sub-battle. so jammed class 2/3/4 ships effective in next sub-battle......I think?

Yep

I am not sure about who gets the advantage after 1 ship in both yours and enemy fleets are jammed. If it is not random then this ship may be too strong.

Then it may be better to use original config and have it decreasing fire power as written on tec-server description.

Eventhough minimum 325 (+ at least 100 other class 1s) of these are needed to destroy 1 cl3 cruiser, I think for it's high mp cost the possibility of using it against swanks and normal fleets because of it's jamming capability will make it worthwhile....especially for kazzulu and mycilloid who don't have an effective class 1 anti-swank

I think this ship is worth a try at a pre-warp. You are right in your statement about no Myc C1 ships being able to combat C3 ships except the Peng and against a Swank they don't work too well .

I would not call it an anti-swank yet but a nice start to developing something that could be effective. It would be a great ship to try out in the battle simulator but it has to implimented into the game first.

BTW...it's been a while since I've been to the simulator. Anyone know if the pre-warp ships are available there?

Yes...there is a battle simulator. Really neat place to sharpen your skills.

Just bumping this up because it is relevant for a comment made in the 'Explain this battle report..' thread where Davlan says:

It does target them but not as a long range hit. They create a missile in your class 3 and do not attack class three in class 2 sub-battle.

It's the reason I created the cruiser saboteur. I'll bump up the tec-server post so u can have a look at it again. It got a few positive posts. Cruiser saboteur acts directly attacking class 3 without creating missile

But as we told you there, we have already the cerberus fighter which is better than this ship, and the raze is chosen to keep the balance, so another similar ship but in another raze wont be usefull i think.
