You can take as many as your free manpower will allow. So, if you have a full fleet, you can take nothing, if you have just a mothership, you can take up to your mp limit in ships.
(I dont recommend that, but you can do it) |

i usually make a 1 1 1 1 fleet and then just load up on what i want cuz you are using almost none of your mp.
