remote hanger (class 4 ship)
like a worm hole portal, this building can be installed on pre-warp planets however it cost mp to maintain. this hanger is made to self-destruct on command. if this ship is attacked by enemy fleets, any ships in storage will also be destroyed and points awarded to attacker.

Just fooling around and often wished I could "drop" ships and then pick up my ships after my "mission".
This invention is obviously incomplete and needs mods not available through the normal ship building app.
What are others thoughts on such a "building". Perhaps it could be deployed/built like a probe and then it could be destroyed easily after intended use is finished. |

I'm not sure i understand this right.
Basically what you want this thing to be is just an extra fleet slot to drop ships that you don't intend to use in battle?
With current mechanics it would consume 1 extra fleet slot from you making it pointless. Besides...there already is the pioneer ship that does basically the same thing only better.
or i completely missed what you intended this ship for.
please explain.

I think you get it Senor... Yes a pioneer ship is available and so is the "3rd" fleet that can do what I want to do.
The problem is, both methods take a fleet slot and they both can shoot back at an attacker.
I'm wanting something that is vulnerable to enemy take-over, easy to destroy and does not take a fleet slot.
It's probably a useless invention for the most part but it could be quick deployment and recovery, no ship building capabilities, take up a probe slot instead of a fleet slot and allow one to still fight with 3 fleets.
It could also be an easy kill for opponents (1 fighter could kill it) and depending on what's being stored, a nice source of points for opponent.
An empty hanger would still yield 100 points for someone who found it.
It would have to be easily visible for "eye in the sky" or other probes.
Regardless, we know it won't happen but just thought I'd throw out the idea for discussion. |

yes, i see what you mean.
but i don't see "storing ships nearby" as an issue. With the current game mechanics you can use a fleet that has already fought and has a battlepause as a storage. It just takes some practicing to drop ships from the fly.
What i would fix though, is pioneer ship consuming one extra fleet slot. It says it transfers your base, but in reality having a pioneer shipyard cripples you to using just 2 fleets. I have been using a remote shipyard for my whole evo now because of my distant spawn location. I really like the idea of extra mobility that the shipyard gives you, but i consider using just 2 fleets as a serious handicap.
It has been interesting trying this tech out though and i have some ideas how to maximise its potential to the fullest. I'll try something cool with the pioneer ship next era and post the results.
